Opening The Windows
A Readers’ Guide to The Prophetic Quest The Stained Glass Windows of Jacob Landau
2015
Small press comic book

A site-specific comic book commissioned by The Temple Judea Museum in Elkins Park, PA. Opening the Windows is a readers’ guide to the monumental stained glass windows made by Jacob Landau in 1974 for Congregation Kenesth Israel.

Part decoder ring, part Midrash, the comic book includes images from the windows that speak directly to the reader, connecting stories from the Torah about striving for justice, mercy and truth to the present, and to a possible future.

In August 2015, Temple Judea Museum exhibited process illustrations and designs related to the comic and the making of the windows. The comic can be found in the pews in the main sanctuary of the synagogue.
